Energy Bill Relief Extension 2024-25 for embedded network customers

The Australian Government has decided to extend and expand the Energy Bill Relief Fund (which was launched in 2023) and provide electricity bill rebates to all Australian households and eligible small business electricity customers in 2024-25 to ease cost of living pressures.

All Australian households will receive a $300 rebate and eligible small businesses $325 from the Australian Government, to be paid in quarterly instalments on your electricity bill throughout 2024-25.

Who is eligible for energy bill relief under the extension in 2024-25

Households

Australian households are eligible for a $300 annual rebate.

For those supplied by a licensed electricity retailer (such as Aurora Energy, 1st Energy CovaU or Energy Locals), the retailer will automatically apply the bill relief to your electricity account and you will not be required to take any action.  The $300 rebate will be split into quarterly instalments of $75, from 1 July 2024.

Households in embedded networks (such as where you receive electricity from your strata or landlord in a caravan park, apartment building or retirement or village under a metered arrangement) will be eligible for a rebate through an application to ReCFIT. This is a once-off $300 payment, and the quarterly instalment approach is not applicable.  Customers that received the original Energy Bill Relief payment of $250 in 2023-24 have been provided a confirmation form to access the Extension 2024-25 program, and do not need to apply – the just need to complete the confirmation document.

If you live on an embedded network and did not receive the 2023-24 Energy Bill Relief rebate (eg. you have only recently moved to live on an embedded network), then you will need to apply to access the Extension 2024-25 program.  That single application will provide access to the Extension 2024-25 program, as well as the State Government’s Supercharged Renewable Energy Dividend (one application for both programs).

Small businesses

Small businesses (those that consumer less than 150MWh pa) to be eligible for a $325 annual rebate.

Any businesses whose annual electricity consumption is above 150MWh ia not be eligible under the program.

Eligible small businesses supplied by an electricity retailer (most businesses) will receive their energy bill rebate automatically through their retailer and won’t be required to take any further action.

Small businesses in an embedded network

Small businesses with metered supply in embedded networks, such as a shopping centre are eligible for a rebate through an application to ReCFIT.
