Climate Change Reference Group

The Climate Change Reference Group was established in 2023 to provide strategic advice and feedback to the Minister for Environment and Climate Change, and Renewables, Climate and Future Industries Tasmania (ReCFIT). The reference group will support achievement of Tasmania's net zero emissions reduction target and build our resilience to the impacts of climate change.

Role

The role of the reference group is to provide a forum for:

  • advice and feedback on key climate change strategic priorities
  • information on emerging opportunities in climate change mitigation and adaptation
  • timely communication and information sharing.

Meetings

The reference group has held four meetings, on 3 May and 24 October 2023, 20 August 2024 and 1 April 2026. Throughout 2025, reference group members participated in workshops and consultation activities as part of the 2024-25 Independent Review of the Climate Change (State Action) Act 2008

The reference group is co-chaired by the Minister for Environment and Climate Change, together with a delegate from the Premier's Youth Advisory Council. The reference group includes representatives from:

  • Royal Automobile Club of Tasmania
  • Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry
  • TasFarmers
  • Tasmanian Forest Products Associaton

  • Unions Tasmania
  • UTAS Tasmanian Policy Exchange
