Tasmania's Green Hydrogen Feasibility Study findings
27 July 2022
The Tasmanian Government is committed to establishing a hydrogen production and export industry in Tasmania alongside our key industry partners.
Today, the Tasmanian Government released the findings from three feasibility studies funded under the $50 million Tasmanian Renewable Hydrogen Industry Development Fund. Achieving the short-term goals outlined in the Tasmanian Renewable Hydrogen Action Plan (TRHAP) is crucial for becoming a significant global producer and exporter of renewable hydrogen by 2030.
The studies funded under the Government's $2.6 million investment were:
- Origin Energy's export scale green hydrogen and ammonia plant producing around 420,000 tonnes of green ammonia per annum, expected to be located at the Bell Bay Advanced Manufacturing Zone;
- ABEL Energy's 100 MW green hydrogen and methanol for export project at the Bell Bay Advanced Manufacturing Zone; and
- Grange Resources' 90-100 MW renewable hydrogen project to provide process heat at its Port Latta facility.
