Green Hydrogen Breakthrough for Tasmania

The renewable energy sector in Tasmania heralded a great step forward last week with the launch of the Blue Economy CRC’s Hydrogen Production and Research Facility at BOC Australia in Lutana.

It means green hydrogen will be produced for the first time in Tasmania and represents an important step forward in the application of hydrogen as a green fuel, helping to decarbonise our transport sector.

This facility is one of Australia’s largest electrolysers, generating up to 100 per cent renewable hydrogen and able to produce 262kgs of 100 per cent green hydrogen, providing an alternative and reliable energy supply that could replace carbon-intensive fossil fuels across a range of industries.

It is a significant milestone and ground breaking project for the State as the Hydrogen Production & Research Facility is Tasmania’s first green hydrogen production facility supporting research and training development for blue economy industries whilst providing commercial-scale hydrogen for industry and transport applications.
