National Hydrogen Strategy

Australia’s National Hydrogen Strategy sets a vision for clean, innovative, safe and competitive hydrogen industry that benefits all Australians.

The Strategy outlines an adaptive approach that equips Australia to scale up quickly as the hydrogen market grows. It sets out a set of nationally coordinated actions involving governments, industry, and the community. Tasmania is actively working to implement the National Strategy, as well as our own Tasmanian Renewable Hydrogen Action Plan.

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency

ARENA’s purpose is to improve the competitiveness of renewable energy technologies and increase the supply of renewable energy through innovation that benefits Australian consumers and businesses. It recently ran a $70 million renewable hydrogen development funding round, with applications currently being assessed. It also has funding available for renewable energy projects, including hydrogen projects, under its Advancing Renewables Program.

Clean Energy Finance Corporation

The CEFC invests in projects that further Australia’s transition to lower emissions. This includes for example, agriculture, energy generation and storage, infrastructure, property, transport and waste. It has established the $300 million Advancing Hydrogen Fund, which will be made available to support the growth of a clean, innovative, safe and competitive hydrogen industry.

Tasmania is uniquely placed to develop a large-scale renewable hydrogen industry using its abundant existing and expandable world-class renewable wind energy firmed by reliable hydro power, and access to industrial zones with high quality infrastructure. The Tasmanian government is committed to supporting hydrogen investment in our State and has prepared this information sheet to assist investors with project planning for their hydrogen projects.
